Evidence Review Plastic and Aesthetic NursingThe purpose of this Evidence Review column is to provide information about current literature of relevance to plastic and aesthetic nurses.M aymone et al. ( 2021) conducted a literature search to review what is known about changes in hair structure over time and to focus on the differences in the hair aging process based on race and ethnicity. After searching the PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar databases from 1965 through July 2019, the researchers examined a total of 69 publications and published a review of their findings related to factors affecting hair aging in Caucasian, African, Asian, and Hispanic individuals. This Evidence Review column summarizes the findings of the literature review.

Pharmacological Management of Pattern Hair Loss

Pattern hair loss (PHL) is a condition that worsens with time and the only way it can be slowed down is with pharmacological intervention. Pharmacological treatments for PHL, from an evidenced-based perspective with respect to safety and efficacy, are limited to only two drugs, minoxidil and finasteride. However, there are a host of drugs being used, off-label with limited evidence. This article attempts to review the literature on this topic, and the authors add to this, with their experience of over two decades on incorporating pharmacologic treatments along with hair transplantation in their management of PHL.
