As collection budgets have dwindled, library acquisitions has become a data-driven field that relies on hard numbers. Libraries are struggling with the demands of adapting to a numbers-driven environment, both from a personnel and a data management perspective. This article includes a literature review, survey results, and practical advice that can be applied to most library environments. A model of transferable outcomes is introduced that encourages libraries to create a data pool of statistical information that can be applied to collections decisions in a variety of ways to quantify the impact of library resources to the broader community.

El objetivo general de esta investigación se dirige a conocer la circulación de los materiales tradicionales en las bibliotecas de la ULe, para observar la evolución del préstamo en el momento de auge de la colección electrónica, indagar sobre los principales usuarios de la colección y averiguar qué tipos documentales son los más prestados. En especial interesa saber el posicionamiento del libro como fuente de información en la comunidad universitaria. De los resultados obtenidos se desprendeque el volumen de la colección se adecua al número de usuario, que el movimiento de la colección no es muy elevado, aunque existen notables diferencias entre centros, y que el préstamo, al igual que la colección, está dominado por los libros impresos.

“…Librarians have been touting, or at least toying with the idea of, some form of demand-or patron-driven acquisition (PDA) program for at least a century (Chadwell 2009;Dana 1896;Holley and Ankem 2005;Hostetler 2010;Hulsey 2003;Jackson 1989;Peasgood 1986;Pritchard 1980;Rathbone 1909;Rawlinson 1981). Numerous publications on patron-driven acquisition (PDA) for print books and similar materials have reported that patronrequested materials circulate more. Tying circulation to selector may be failing to address the complex of factors that contributes to items' circulation. In the present study, the authors revisit a PDA program's data and to determine whether PDA print books' circulation advantage persists when the potential interactions of several additional variables are taken into account. As with prior studies, library patrons were significantly better predictors of circulation than were librarians or approval plans. However, librarians proved to be significantly better predictors than were approval plans.
