Digital technologies may enable the adoption of Circular Economy models in production and consumption processes, thereby promoting environmental sustainability. Literature on these topics has grown exponentially over the last decades, focusing on the adoption of Industry 4.0 technologies and its implications for environmental sustainability or circularity. However, extant literature reviews failed to cover the vast amount of literature produced, since they either have a narrow scope or focus on a limited sample of articles. To fill this gap, a bibliometric literature review was carried out on a sample of 1002 scientific articles on Circular Economy, Industry 4.0 technologies, and environmental sustainability. Descriptive statistics are coupled with a cluster-based analysis to provide a comprehensive coverage of the broader subject matter. Eight research clusters have been identified, with two general clusters (linkages between Industry 4.0, Circular Economy, environmental sustainability) and six topic-specific clusters (Big Data analytics for supply chain circularity, circular and sustainable additive manufacturing, urban sustainability, sustainable circular and digital (re)manufacturing, blockchain and data integration for a sustainable Circular Economy, miscellaneous and sectorial applications). Clusters are discussed in terms of research themes, methodologies, technologies, and circular strategies. Finally, a research agenda is drafted, pointing out six cluster-specific and four more transversal research directions. Hence, this research offers a detailed and quantitative overview of the research landscape, helping researchers and managers in understanding past contributions, assessing current standings, and identifying future directions of the research at the intersection of Industry 4.0 technologies, environmental sustainability, and Circular Economy.

In 2011, the term Digital Twin was originally introduced by Michael Grieves to define the synchronization between two realities: physical objects placed in a real space and virtual objects within in virtual space, linked through the mutual exchange of data throughout the entire lifecycle, both in real-time and asynchronously. Nowadays, Digital Twin is among the principal and emerging technological innovations of both Industry 4.0 and the emerging Industry 5.0, enabling an interaction between physical and virtual objects, Big Data, Internet of Things, and Artificial Intelligence. The construction sector, too, is now exploring the potentialities offered by the Digital Twin approach in enhancing innovative, responsible, and sustainable governance of buildings’ lifecycles. Concerning these issues, this paper proposes visualizing future challenges with a specific focus on the operation and maintenance phase and its related impact on decarbonization via a critical literature review of the current statements. The applied methodology is based on three different questions related to certain research issues performed in the Scopus database. The selected findings were filtered, classified, and discussed. Some future challenges on specific issues have been identified, defining and promoting novel research ideas.

By adopting sustainable practices, organizations can enhance their brand reputation, increase customer loyalty, achieve cost savings, improve risk management, foster innovation, and gain a competitive advantage. Additionally, the adoption of green supply chain practices contributes to environmental conservation, resource efficiency, and the mitigation of climate change impacts.Originality/Value – This study offers a comprehensive analysis of sustainable supply chain practices, with a particular focus on Thailand's manufacturing sector. It provides valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities associated with implementing sustainability strategies across various industries. The research highlights best practices, case studies, and recommendations tailored to the Thai context, enabling businesses to navigate the transition towards greener supply chains effectively. Furthermore, the study emphasizes the significance of Thailand's sustainability efforts in influencing global standards and positioning the nation as a leader in responsible manufacturing practices.
