“…According to Mudrack (1993, as cited in Carter et al, 2015, individuals low in Machiavellianism pay more attention to morality in their surroundings, leading them to avoid unethical behavior. Therefore, even though there are positive aspects to the Machiavellian trait, potentially harmful characteristics are still employed as tactics to achieve goals.…”

“…Therefore, this conception of leadership assumes that it is those special attributes of leaders (generally men) that result in them being followed by the masses. Over time, this perspective, with its focus on charisma, has included research that in one way or another recurs to personality as a fundamental explanation of the whys and wherefores of leadership [4][5][6][7]. Specifically, the personality of leaders has been described as characterized predominantly by extraversion, conscientiousness, and openness to experience [5].…”

“…Thus, if one believes in exploiting others and ignoring the law in the best way, he feels this is the way of successful persons, such as ethical leaders, so he applies similar procedures for achieving his goals (21). But some studies (48) provide consistent evidence that narcissism is a significant positive factor in both leadership role occupancy and hiring decision in a collectivist culture. Since narcissists are negative-oriented persons, so they do not assume their leaders as ethical persons.…”
