Why glyphosate is not the issue with Roundup

Abstract: Roundup and other glyphosate-based herbicides are the most widely used pesticides in the world; their residues are among the main pollutants in surface waters. Their use has increased through the spraying of 80% of edible agricultural GMOs, which also contain high levels of their residues. They are composed of glyphosate (35-40% in general) and adjuvants that are around 1,000 times more toxic than glyphosate alone, and are also endocrine disruptors below toxic thresholds. All endocrine disruptors (ED) are also… Show more

“…The EU-wide regulatory approval process only tests the designated active ingredient in a pesticide formulation, not the formulation that is actually in use. This is an important distinction because the formulants in Roundup herbicide are far more toxic than the active ingredient, glyphosate, by factors of about 1000 (Séralini et al [17]). Moreover, the formulants are also endocrine disrupters and nervous system disruptors.…”

“…Yet adjuvants are not always declared, and regulating bodies test only the effects of glyphosate alone. In a separate paper, Séralini stated that "The declared active principles often appear to be by far the least toxic compounds after water in formulations" [127].…”
