Wideband DOA estimation based on incoherent signal subspace method

Abstract: Purpose Direction-of-arrival (DOA) estimation for wideband sources has attracted a growing interest in the recent decade because wideband sources are incorporated in many real-world applications such as communication systems, radar, sonar and acoustics. One way to estimate the DOAs of wideband signals is to decompose it into narrowband signals using discrete Fourier transform (DFT) and then apply well-established narrowband algorithms to each signal. Afterwards, results are averaged to yield the final DOAs. Th… Show more

“…In addition, the transmitted signals were defined as ideal signals from ideal elements. In real-time, the signal transmission scenario is complex [47][48][49] which results in mutual coupling, frequency increment errors, and non-negligible side lobes, etc. Therefore, the comparison between FDA and phased array will be more complex, and may affect the overall efficiency.…”

“…In this section, we focus on the estimation of respiration rate from the extracted VS waveform ŝl (t). Based on Equation (23), ŝl (t) can be expressed as: ŝl (t) ≈ A l e j2π f l r t (24) Applying the FT to Equation ( 24) leads to:…”

“…To deal with the array signal processing-based model, we propose a proper pre-processing step to obtain a multivariant narrow-band signal via the generalized Goertzel algorithm (GGA) [23]. Further, we consider an incoherent signal subspace method (ISSM) for direction of arrival (DOA) estimation [24]. In particular, we use the incoherent multiple signal classification (IMUSIC) to estimate the incident angle of each person [25,26].…”

“…With the continued development in wireless communications, wide operating bandwidths, massive connectivity, high data rates, low latency, and data-intensive applications become inevitable to provide a wide range of services [1]. In general, antenna arrays [2][3][4] are well-known to meet all these requirements, and provide a number of advantages including increased system capacity, energy efficiency, and robustness etc. However, when it comes to smart devices, it is beneficial to consider a compact single antenna [5].…”
