Wideband internal PIFA‐loop antenna designed on the bezel of digital television applications for UHF band

Abstract: A simple internal antenna that combines a planar inverted F antenna (PIFA) and a loop antenna to achieve wideband (BW ∼ 48%) operation in ultra-high frequency (UHF: 470-771 MHz) band for digital television (DTV) applications is presented. The design allows the installation of an antenna within a TV model, thereby addressing the limitations of space. The 49-inch DTV is used for the practical implementation experiment. The TV bezel (made of polycarbonateacrylonitrile butadiene styrene (PC-ABS): ε r = 3.5; tan δ … Show more

“…Few antenna designs for DTV applications are presented in the literature. The antenna presented in [3] combines a planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) and a loop antenna to achieve wideband operation in the UHF band. However, the operational bandwidth of the proposed PIFA-loop antenna is 460-870 MHz.…”

“…When considering the antenna presented in [1], although it covers the entire range of the DVB-T standard, the HI antenna proposed in this work has a bandwidth about 132 MHz larger than that device. Finally, with respect to Table 2, references [3][4][5] and [7] do not present their respective percentages of band coverage because the authors consider the cutoff threshold for defining the operation band of their devices above -6 dB.…”

“…More recently, the authors of the studies presented in [3]- [5] have proposed a monopole antenna integrated into its ground plane for receiving DTV signals. The device was loaded with parasitic elements to enhance its bandwidth.…”

“…In [ 3 ], an internal antenna that combined a planar inverted F antenna (PIFA) and a loop antenna for digital television reception achieved an impedance bandwidth of 48%, covering 470–771 MHz. In [ 4 ], a miniaturized wideband meander-line antenna using a magneto dielectric material was developed for the DVB-H/LTE13/GSM850/900 applications.…”
