Will restructuring medical education and healthcare services in Turkey restore confidence in the PHC system?

Abstract

An American survey among male and female residents showed results which are well worth thinking about.g Young doctors feel more comfortable with patients of the same sex, in talking about gender-related topics, and also with examinations concerning intimate areas of the body. They perform such examinations less often in patients of the opposite sex. This may of course lead to underperformance. Certainly, we can hope that this problem decreases as professional experience increases. However, leaving it to chance is not a professional attitude. We will have to teach and learn. Adequate knowledge, skills and attitudes in dealing with gender-specific aspects will enable us to give better palliative care to our patients and increase our job satisfaction.
