Wireless Link Quality Prediction in IoT Networks

Abstract: The knowledge of link quality in IoT networks will allow a more accurate selection of wireless links to build the routes used by data gathering. Therefore, the number of retransmissions on these links is decreased, leading to a shorter end-to-end latency, a better end-to-end reliability and a larger network lifetime. In this paper, we propose to predict link quality by means of machine learning techniques applied on two metrics: RSSI and PDR. The accuracy obtained by Logistic Regression, Linear Support Vector … Show more

“…The prediction model utilizes lists of MEC servers and stored results to forecast the future flow of end devices. This prediction process utilizes link quality estimation techniques outlined in [26] and [?]. Based on these predictions, bandwidth allocation is carried out for each MEC server, considering the parameter γ to comply with the constraint specified in Equation 5.…”

“…The packet reception rate (PRR) therefore becomes an important indicator for evaluating link reliability. To calculate PRR, a large number of test fittings can be used to provide intuitive feedback, and it can adaptively and slowly track changes in transmission channel quality 25 . We regard the transmission process of the data packet between the destination node and the sending node as multiple Bernoulli experiments.…”

The result of the data transmission to the destination node in each experiment can be a success (the sending node receives ACK) or a failure.…”
