Wood identification using pressure DSC data

Abstract: This work addresses the problem of supervised classification of industrial wood species (seven different types in the present study) through their thermo‐oxidative stability. This is evaluated by pressure differential scanning calorimetry (PDSC) using the ASTM E2009. The maximization of the ratio of correct classification and the reduction of the costs of this activity are intended. This supervised classification problem was carried out using two different proposals: applying novel nonparametric functional dat… Show more

“…DSC curve at a temperature below 160C showed an endothermic reaction with slow heating rate for all of biomass (Tarrío-Saavedra et al 2013;Yang et al 2007). Changes in this region can be attributed mainly to the removal of moisture, especially freewater.…”

“…These results support the previous results that mangium wood would be difficult to decompose generate vaporized as compared to pine wood. Meanwhile candlenut shell had high lignin content that would be produce volatile less than mangium and pines wood (Tarrío-Saavedra et al 2013;Gasparovic et al 2010). 2.…”

Select 450 Ò is prepared from natural aluminium silicate179 and magnesium, which is modified through a special process for 180 producing an adsorbent with affinity to soaps, presented p 6 0.05[16,17].190 2.3.1. Acidity index 191 The method used in this work follows the standard EN 14104, 192 using an alcoholic solution of KOH as the titrant and phenolph-193 thalein as indicator.…”

“…The linear models are the simplest and most typical parametric models, but in chemistry and biology domains, nonlinear models are also important and useful. In this regard, there are many processes characterized by exponential and sigmoid types of relations between critical variables such as material degradation (Robles-Bykbaev et al, 2018; Ríos-Fachal et al, 2014), crystallization (López-Beceiro, Gracia-Fernández & Artiaga, 2013), oxidation (Tarrío-Saavedra et al, 2013), and material dimensional variation due to magnetic changes (Tarrío-Saavedra et al, 2017). In fact, the requirements of biological growth have popularized sigmoid monotonic nonlinear functions, characterized by exponential growth and a point of inflection from which the speed of growth gradually decreases until reaching a saturation zone (Kahm et al, 2010; Román-Román & Torres-Ruiz, 2012; Kingsland, 1985; Tarrío-Saavedra et al, 2014).…”
