Diorama, path and project" by Torsten Hägerstrand is one of the most important contributions to the development of time geography. It introduced the diorama approach along the lines of "the live corporeality of humans and society", and it still enduringly inspires the study of everyday life and urban space in a space-time integrative framework. This article revisits the classic article and reflects on certain key ideas, such as the "thereness" of diorama and the continuity and corporeality of project realization. Specifically, we will stress the applicability and the usefulness of the diorama approach to understanding everyday life and urban space in transitional Chinese cities. Finally, we discuss the enduring power, some methodological issues, as well as research agendas on urban geography and planning research in Chinese cities based on the diorama approach in time geography.

We examine how mobile information and communication technologies (ICTs) and mediated interaction transform daily work activity in contemporary, extended telework. We expand on the concepts of mediated bundles and pacesetters to understand how the rhythms and employee control of work activity change. We draw on in-depth interviews with 22 teleworkers with varying skills and work tasks. We find that mobile technology not only relaxes the time-space constraints of telework but fosters countering processes of recoupling and fixity. New ICTs shift the relative importance of individually defined and work-related pacesetters. The rhythm of daily work is increasingly set by horizontal interaction between spatially dispersed coworkers. It is informally regulated through practices of the continuous-mediated interweaving of workflows and synchronised responsivity in relation to changing work intensity. Highly qualified teleworkers more often signal that they are in control and setting the pace compared to less qualified.

The objective of this study is to describe and assess a methodology based on a time geographical approach for studying energy and water use in households. Energy and water resources are often used in routinized activities, and in activities considered as private, normal and ordinary, which makes them difficult to explore in research. In this article, we give an account of a mixed-methods approach using time diaries, metering data, interviews and simple observations, and analyse and discuss its methodological and empirical implications from two Swedish case studies. We conclude that the suggested combination of methods, despite some complications, provides a comprehensive account of household energy and water use to which various theoretical perspectives could apply. Energy and water using activities are defined in terms of time, place, quantity, material and social context, and are related to user perspectives on resource use and usage data. Such knowledge provides important input for information campaigns, technological retrofitting and other systemic changes in striving towards sustainability.
