Workaholism in IT: An Analysis of the Influence Factors

Abstract: The purpose of this article is to make an exhaustive analysis of the influencing factors for the phenomenon of workaholism in IT. In contemporary economies, workaholism is an increasingly common phenomenon. Companies should evaluate the impact on workers of this trend, and note that knowledge of the factors influencing the decision to overwork can be a competitive advantage when implementing human resources policies. Our approach involved the use of multivariate analysis of variance combined with multiple line… Show more

“…Moreover, Table 3 also gives the values of the multicollinearity test for independent variables (VIF = variance inflation factor). According to Dospinesc and Dospinescu [99], the VIF value should be less than 2.00, indicating that the data are not collinear. The VIF values for each variable were between 1.122 to 1.889, which is lower than the reference value of 5 [100], indicating that the obtained structural model has no negative effects, and there is no multicollinearity across items or predictor constructs.…”

“…Studies have shown that the enhanced employee engagement is an excellent predictor of work performance, organizational success, financial performance, and client satisfaction ( Coetzee & De Villiers, 2010 ; Schmitt, Den Hartog & Belschak, 2016 ). However, Dospinescu & Dospinescu (2020) termed this as an occupational hazard where increase work pressure engagement impairs physical health, psychological well-being, and work performance. Hence, job stress and pressure acts as a mediator between demands and work related outcomes.…”

“…The study was conducted using modified questionnaires on workaholism, work engagement, job stress and satisfaction questionnaire (WHWEJSSQ), taking guide from three validated research tools, The Brief Job Questionnaire (BJSQ), Dutch Work Addiction Scale (DUWAS) ( Dospinescu & Dospinescu, 2020 ) and Utrecht Work Engagement Scale (UWES) ( Dospinescu & Dospinescu, 2020 ; Otsuka et al, 2020 ). The WHWEJSQ consisted of 76 closed ended questions.…”

“…In order to validate this, the variance inflation factor (VIF) for multicollinearity was calculated, and was found to be within the interval (1 < VIF < 5). After checking the multicollinearity, regression analysis was performed in three steps [49]. The first step was to conduct a regression analysis to determine the direct impact of advertising practises on impulsive purchasing behaviour.…”
