Worldsheet Instanton Corrections to Five-branes and Waves in Double Field Theory

Abstract: We make a comprehensive study on the string winding corrections to supergravity solutions in double field theory (DFT). We find five-brane and wave solutions of diverse codimensions in which the winding coordinates are naturally included. We discuss a physical interpretation of the winding coordinate dependence. The analysis based on the geometric structures behind the solutions leads to an interpretation of the winding dependence as string worldsheet instanton corrections. We also give a brief discussion on t… Show more

“…After we discuss the Abrikosov-Nielsen-Olesen (ANO) vortex corrections, we find that they are mapped to the worldsheet instanton corrections to the background configurations of the defect five-branes. This analysis confirms the investigation in the framework of DFT in [41]. Section 7 is devoted to the conclusion and discussions.…”

“…The corrections will correspond to stringy corrections to the above configurations. Some of them have already discussed in [31,13,32,14], and the other is discussed in [41].…”

“…The doubled structure discussed in this paper would provide a mathematical foundation towards the coquecigrue problem for gauge symmetry in DFT. We believe that revealing a geometric origin of DFT gauge symmetry is important to understand the stringy winding effects to spacetimes [32,[51][52][53][54]. We will come back to these issues in future works.…”
