Worldwide distribution and theoretical spreading of Trichoferus campestris (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) depending on the main climatic elements

Abstract: The velvet longhorned beetle, Trichoferus campestris (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) is a serious wood‐boring pest that is a major threat to the phytosanitary condition of forests and orchards. Its worldwide expansion is a major concern for plant health. We have collected all bibliographical references, phytosanitary reports and authentic photographic evidence from entomological websites to determine the worldwide distribution of T. campestris. The theoretical directions of the spreading and actually occupied area … Show more

“…One example could be velvet longhorned beetle, Trichoferus campestris-a relatively closely related (Cerambycinae: Hesperophanini) species with a similar bionomy, native to this region but, unlike Turanium, also to highly industrialized China, that is considered a serious wood-boring pest and one of the most rapidly spreading cerambycids (e.g. Grebennikov et al 2010;Dascălu et al 2013;Keszthelyi et al 2019).…”

“…Papers about the theoretical spread of some insect species depending on climatological factors and biological constants as well as the windmediated spread in new habitats (Gui et al, 2012;Nathan et al, 2003) were recently published Keszthelyi, 2021;Keszthelyi et al, 2019;. According to Meng et al (2007).…”

“…were recorded between 1997 and 2017 (Krishnankutty et al ., 2020). Adults of T. campestris have been reported from many areas in the USA and Canada (Keszthelyi et al ., 2019; Krishnankutty et al ., 2020). Interestingly, records of infested trees appear to be scarce.…”

“…T. campestris has also been intercepted in imported wood or wood packaging material in France, Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic and Sweden (Keszthelyi et al ., 2019). Moreover, adults have been caught in trap surveys in ports in Italy and Austria (Pennacchio et al ., 2016; Hoch et al ., 2016).…”
