Guided by the theory of technological determinism, this research examines how developments in technology, spanning from instrument innovation in the eighteenth century to the digital recording era, have reshaped the career trajectories of classical musicians. While recent advancements in the digital era have introduced new career opportunities, they have also presented growing challenges, necessitating a thorough understanding of their impacts. Through contextual analysis, this research identifies ways for classical musicians to utilise technological evolution for career advancement. It emphasises the importance of adapting to new technological tools, embracing diversity and expanding skill sets, as well as building communities with peers and audiences via streaming platforms. By exploring the opportunities, challenges, and strategic approaches arising from technological progression, this research offers valuable insights into the evolving dynamics of classical musicians’ career development in the digital age, particularly concerning streaming platforms and artificial intelligence.
