A service-oriented architecture (SOA) for web applications is often implemented using web services (WSs) and consists of different operations the executions of which are perceived as events. The order and time-appropriateness of occurrences of these events play a vital role for the proper functioning of a real-time SOA. This paper presents an event-based approach to modeling and testing of functional behavior of WSs by event sequence graphs (ESG). Nodes of an ESG represent events, e.g., "request" or "response", and arcs give the sequence of these events. For representing parameter values, e.g., for time-out of operation calls, ESG are augmented by decision tables. A case study carried out on a commercial web system with SOA validates the approach and analyzes its characteristic issues. The novelty of the approach stems from (i) its simplicity and lucidity in representing complex real-time web applications based on WSs in SOA, and (ii) its modeling that considers also testing and thus enables a comfortable fault management leading to a holistic view.

The use of web services in industrial automation, e.g. in fully automated production processes like car manufacturing, promises simplified interaction among the manufacturing devices due to standardized protocols and increased flexibility with respect to process implementation and reengineering. Moreover, the adoption of web services as a seamless communication backbone within the overall industrial enterprise has additional benefits, such as simplified interaction with suppliers and customers (i.e. horizontal integration) and avoidance of a break in the communication paradigm within the enterprise (i.e. vertical integration).The Time-Constrained Services (TiCS) framework is a development and execution environment that empowers automation engineers to develop, deploy, publish, compose, and invoke time-constrained web services. TiCS consists of four functional layers-tool support layer, real-time infrastructural layer, real-time service layer, and hardware layerwhich contain several components to meet the demands of a web service based automation infrastructure. This article gives an overview of the TiCS framework. More precisely, the general design considerations and an architectural blueprint of the TiCS framework are presented. Subsequently, selected key components of the TiCS framework are discussed in detail: the SOAP4PLC engine for equipping programmable logic controllers with a web service interface, the SOAP4IPC engine for processing web services in realtime on industrial PCs, the WS-TemporalPolicy language for describing time constraints, and the TiCS Modeler for composing time-constrained web services into a time-constrained BPEL4WS workflow.

ABSTRACT:Over the past decade, Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) and Web services have gained wide popularity and acceptance from researchers and industries all over the world. SOA makes it easy to build business applications with common services, and it provides like: reduced integration expense, better asset reuse, higher business agility, and reduction of business risk. Building of framework for acquiring useful geospatial information for potential users is a crucial problem faced by the GIS domain. Geospatial Web services solve this problem. With the help of web service technology, geospatial web services can provide useful geospatial information to potential users in a better way than traditional geographic information system (GIS). A geospatial Web service is a modular application designed to enable the discovery, access, and chaining of geospatial information and service s across the web that are often both computation and data-intensive that involve diverse sources of data and complex processing functions. With the proliferation of web services published over the internet, multiple web services may provide similar functionality, but with different non-functional properties. Thus, Quality of Service (QoS) offers a metric to differentiate the services and their service providers. In a quality-driven selection of web services, it is important to consider non-functional properties of the web service so as to satisfy the constraints or requirements of the end users. The main intent of this paper is to build an automated endto-end multi-agent based solution to provide the best-fit web service to service requester based on QoS.
