Yes-Associated Protein 1 as a Novel Prognostic Biomarker for Gastrointestinal Cancer: A Meta-Analysis

Abstract: Background Yes-associated protein 1 (YAP1) is an effector of Hippo pathway, which plays a significant role in cell proliferation and tumor progression. The relationship between YAP1 and gastrointestinal cancer has been explored in many previous studies. We conducted a meta-analysis to explore the prognostic effect of YAP1 in patients with gastrointestinal cancer. Methods A systematic search was performed through the PubMed, Web of Science, Embase, and Cochrane library databases to collect eligible studies. The… Show more

“…Other studies have shown a potential role of GSK3/β-catenin or AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) pathways, which are regulated by CagA, in the enhancement of the YAP pathway [152,153]. Molina-Castro et al (2020) showed that infection by CagA-positive H. pylori upregulates YAP1 and large tumor suppressor 2 (LATS2) expression in gastric epithelial cells [154]. Overexpression of the oncogenic YAP1 is associated with aggressiveness and poor prognosis [155].…”

“…The Hippo- yes-associated protein (YAP) pathway plays a vital part in modulating metabolism, organ-size, and tumorigenesis [ 13 , 14 ]. YAP1 is a transcriptional co-activator of the Hippo pathway, which can decrease YAP1 activity by promoting cytoplasmic localization of YAP1 [ 15 ].…”

“…YAP1 is a transcriptional co-activator of the Hippo pathway, which can decrease YAP1 activity by promoting cytoplasmic localization of YAP1 [ 15 ]. In many human malignancies, upregulation of YAP1 is reported to be associated with enhanced cell growth, tumor formation, and worse clinical outcomes [ 13 , 16 ]. The phosphorylation status and localization of YAP1 is the most important mechanism regulating YAP1 function [ 17 ].…”
