Zebrafish Wnt9b Patterns the First Pharyngeal Arch into D-I-V Domains and Promotes Anterior-Medial Outgrowth

Abstract: H. W. Jackson et al. 58pitx2a after the opening of the primary mouth and disrupted expression of Wnt5b which is consistent with disrupted chondrocyte stacking. Strong upregulation of dorsal mesodermal frzb expression in the prechordal plate of Wnt9b morphants suggests a role for Wnt9b in primary mouth induction or maintenance. Collectively these results argue that Wnt9b has a much earlier developmental requirement. This work draws attention to potential vertebrate homologies that pattern CNCC and facial outgro… Show more

“… 91 )) of the WNT-signaling pathway. Defects or expression disruptions of wnt9b , tpbg , sfrp5 and pou2f1 genes lead to deficiency in the WNT signal pathway, and bilateral craniofacial asymmetry and skull malformation in vertebrates 92 , 93 , including zebrafish 94 . Our analyses also revealed substantial changes in physicochemical properties and three-dimensional structure of these WNT components in RFP (for example, T212P and P428S cause polarity changes of amino acids in pou2f1; T169K caused charge changes in tpbg; K236R caused protein structure changes in sfrp5) (Supplementary Figs.…”

“…The third gene, wnt9b , is a member of the WNT gene family encoding a secreted signaling protein required for dorso-ventral patterning of oral jaw and outgrowth of upper jaw in zebrafish [42, 56]. Expectedly, we found higher oral jaw expression of wnt9b in all species except the herbivorous species from LT, also, more similar expression patterns for wnt9b were found in the jaws of species from LM and LV.…”
