Zinc desorption kinetics in wheat (Triticum Aestivum L.) rhizosphere in some sewage sludge amended soils

Abstract: The objectives of this study were to determine Zn desorption characteristics and the correlation of these parameters with Zn extracted by DTPA-TEA method in bulk and rhizosphere amended soils with sewage sludge under greenhouse conditions by using a rhizobox. For amended soils 10 g of sewage sludge was added to 1 kg of 10 soil samples. The kinetics of Zn desorption in bulk and rhizosphere was determined by successive extraction with DTPA-TEA in a period of 1 to 504 h at 25±1 0 C. The results showed that Zn ext… Show more

“…The column was then filled with 300 g of 2 mm‐sieved and air‐dried soil, following the protocols of soil column set‐up for unsaturated dry‐packing ( Lewis and Sjöstrom , ; DEMEAU , ). For the treatment, 3 g of the processed F. serratus (that is, 213 ± 6 µg of zinc) was mixed evenly throughout the soil column, an application rate equivalent to 20 tonnes of seaweed per hectare ( Motaghian and Hosseinpur , ), since the mass of soil per hectare at 15 cm surface depth is 2 million kg ha −1 ( Bohn et al, ).…”

“…Recent research has investigated the potential of organic amendments as Zn fertilizers. Suitable potential sources include: sewage sludge ( Motaghian and Hosseinpur , ), green manures made from red clover and sunflower ( Aghili et al, ), poultry manure ( Ravindran et al, ), cow manure and vermicompost ( Motaghian and Hosseinpur , ), biogas slurry ( Malav et al, ; Dey et al, ), brewery waste sludge ( Ahmed et al, ), and seaweed ( Possinger , ).…”

“…The Elovich equation provided an excellent data fit and was fitted to P desorption data ( Figure 8). As a suitable model for describing P desorption data, Elovich equation has been employed in numerous studies [36,37,[97][98][99][100][101][102].…”
