Abstract: CPs based on zinc(ii) and the acyclic dicarboxylate itaconate linker show blue fluorescence that turns into green long lasting phosphorescence.

“…In Figure , the microphotoluminescent (micro-PL) images depicted the blue and green emission in single crystal of [Zn(μ-6-ani) 2 ]. Later, similar reports are also observed for [M(μ-2-ani) 2 ] (M = Zn and Cd; 2-ani = 2-aminonicotinate) and [Pb(2-ani) 2 ]. , Computational studies were carried out to validate the LLP process dictated by LCCT mechanism in [Zn 2 (μ 3 -IA) 2 (H 2 O) 4 ] and [Zn 2 (μ-IA) 2 (DMF)]·H 2 O (IA 2– = itaconate) . Other related examples are provided for 2D MOFs. …”

“…A systematic study of some factors, namely pH and solvents, led to [Zn 2 (ia) 2 (H 2 O) 4 ] n ( 4 ) and {[Zn 2 (ia) 2 (DMF)] n ·H 2 O} n ( 5 ) (H 2 ia = itaconic acid). Interestingly, both compounds exhibit blue fluorescence and green phosphorescence that entails less frequent long-lasting phosphorescence [ 26 ].…”

“…So far, although many coordination polymers with RTP behaviors have been reported, almost all of them are based on aromatic ligands. There is only one report of coordination polymers based on nonaromatic ligands with phosphorescent behaviors, but their phosphorescence can only be observed at very low temperatures (∼ 10 K) . Compared with the nonaromatic ligands (itaconic acid) reported in the literature, acetate has a smaller substituent to bind the carboxyl group, which is more conducive to the production of compounds with a high carboxyl group density. Therefore, compound 1 shows RTP properties.…”

“…Furthermore, metal ions can also effectively promote spin–orbit coupling through the heavy atom effect. , To date, some coordination polymers with RTP behavior have been reported. , , However, so far all of the reported RTP coordination polymers are based on aromatic (conventional) ligands. As we know, there is only one report on coordination polymers with long lifetime phosphorescence based on nonaromatic ligands, but the compounds show the property only at an extremely low temperature (10 K) . Considering the advantages of coordination polymer-type RTP materials, it is necessary to develop such materials based on nonaromatic (nonconventional) ligands.…”
