Zingiber mioga Extract Improves Moisturization and Depigmentation of Skin and Reduces Wrinkle Formation in UVB-Irradiated HRM-2 Hairless Mice

Abstract: Here, we investigated the effects of Zingiber mioga extracts (FSH-ZM) on the moisturization and depigmentation of skin as well as wrinkle formation in UVB-irradiated HRM-2 hairless mice. The mice were divided into six groups as follows: normal control (NC), UVB-irradiated control (C), positive control 1 (PC1, L-ascorbic acid 200 mg/kg b.w.), positive control 2 (PC2, Arbutin 200 mg/kg b.w.), Z100 (FSH-ZM 100 mg/kg b.w.), and Z200 (FSH-ZM 200 mg/kg b.w.). The experiment spanned a period of 6 weeks. We found that… Show more

“…Enhancing the activity of these antioxidant enzymes including CAT, can delay skin and hair aging, prevent hair loss by modulating hair growth factors such as IGF-1 and VEGF, and mitigate oxidative stress-induced damage to the extracellular matrix through inhibition of oxidative stress, anti-inflammatory effects by reducing the expression of inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-1β, TNF-α), and preservation of ECM integrity by increasing hyaluronic acid levels through up-regulation of HAS [ 2 , 61 , 62 , 63 ]. The hair shaft consists of three layers: the cuticle, cortex, and medulla [ 64 ].…”

“…The collagen, accounting for 70-80% of dry skin weight, is the main component of the extracellular matrix [29,30] and can be employed as an indicator in the process of dermal repair. Collagen imaging has been widely used in the transdermal movement of drugs in vivo [31], scar prognosis [32,33], and cancerous tissues [34,35].…”

“…The main constituent was identified as ent-11-hydroxy-15-oxo-kaur-16-en-19-oic acid [ 115 ]. Improved depigmentation was observed after UVB-irradiated HRM-2 hairless mice treatment with Panax ginseng extract at doses of 150 and 300 mg/kg for 5 weeks [ 116 ] as well as 100 and 200 mg/kg of Zingiber mioga extract for 6 weeks [ 117 ]. Moreover, C57BL/6 mice and brown guinea pigs undergoing hydroquinone and H 2 O 2 induced hypopigmentation, respectively.…”
