Provenance and Drainage Evolution of the Red River Revealed by Pb Isotopic Analysis of Detrital K‐Feldspar

“…Based on the U-Pb dating and Hf isotopic analysis of detrital zircons, Hoang et al (2009) proposed that the Yangtze and Songpan-Garze blocks are the important sources for the modern Red River, although these sediments were mostly reworked via sedimentary rocks in the upper reaches of the Red River. This study, combined with the Pb isotopic data from the Yangtze River basin and other observations in the Y-SH Basin (e.g., zircon dating and geochemical data; Wang et al, 2014Wang et al, , 2016Yan et al, 2011;Zhao et al, 2015) do not support an important contribution from the Songpan-Garze Block in the geological past.…”

The Cenozoic sediments in the central and northern Y‐SH basin yielded the multiple zircon age populations consistent with the zircon U–Pb ages of rock units along the Red River system, and largely inconsistent with sources from central Vietnam and Hainan Island (Cao et al, ; Wang et al, , ).…”
