ZnO Nanosheets Decorated with CdSe and TiO2 for the Architecture of Dye-Sensitized Solar Cells

Abstract: Pure and TiO2- and CdSe-deposited ZnO nanosheets aligned vertically to the surface of ITO (Indium tin oxide) are prepared using electrodeposition, which is used for building blocks of dye sensitized solar cell. A significant improvement in the photovoltaic efficiency can be obtained by depositing TiO2 or CdSe on ZnO. Photoluminescence spectra show that the TiO2 and CdSe nanostructures suppress the recombination of the electron-hole pair of ZnO. We suggest that the interface charge transfer at TiO2-ZnO and CdSe… Show more

“…The data indicate that the different crystal face of TiO2-NS shows different PCE, and the highest PCE (4.7%) was ultimately observed with TiO2-NS (101) [96]. [101]. The aforementioned studies and Table 2 suggest that TiO 2 -NS is the most commonly used 2D-NL in DSSCs due to its high adsorption ability, cost-effectiveness, mesoporous texture, ability to receive electrons from dye, and high crystallinity.…”

“…Moreover, CdSe-ZnO-NS-based DSSCs show the highest PCE (1.30%), whereas TiO2-ZnO-NS shows PCE of around 0.70%. The improvement in PCE is due to the inhibited recombination of electron hole pairs at the interface of CdSe and TiO2 [101]. The aforementioned studies and Table 2 suggest that TiO2-NS is the most commonly used 2D-NL in DSSCs due to its high adsorption ability, cost-effectiveness, mesoporous texture, ability to receive electrons from dye, and high crystallinity.…”

“…1 A variety of inexpensive techniques have been used to deposit CdSe, including chemical bath deposition, 2 solgel, 3,4 successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction (SILAR), 5,6 and electrodeposition. [7][8][9][10] Electrodeposition is a scalable, inexpensive method of depositing semiconductors that allows solution-based processing near room temperature. Most CdSe thin films have been electrodeposited from acidic aqueous baths with pH < 3.…”
