α-Helical Structures and Iron Contents of the Ribosomal Ferritin from Normal, Cirrhotic and Cancerous Human Livers

Abstract: The α-helical contents of the ribosomal apoferritin fractions from normal, cirrhotic and cancerous human livers were determined to be 44%, 31% and 17%, respectively, by optical rotatory dispersion (ORD) measurements. This derangement in the helical structures of the apoferritins from pathological livers is discussed to effect possibly the decrease of iron contents of the corresponding ribosomal ferritin fractions
