(Charlottesville, VA and Brooklyn, NY) November 25, 2019 — Silverchair announced today the addition of scite, a company that enables anyone to see how a scientific report has been cited, to the Silverchair Universe, the Silverchair Platform’s certified partner network. The Silverchair Universe provides publishers a framework for rapidly integrating complementary products and services with the Silverchair Platform.
Citations are the backbone of scientific publications, connecting ideas through time and space. Citations are used by readers to explore related work, assess the impact of scientific articles, as well as to measure the impact of the scientific journal. scite, a Brooklyn-based startup, is improving how publishers and researchers use citations.
scite allows anyone to see how a scientific report has been cited, specifically if it has been supported or contradicted. Using deep learning and a network of experts, scite has classified over 430 million citation statements from 13 million scientific articles that support, contradict, or mention the cited study. scite intends to classify citations for all scientific publications. scite is used by researchers from dozens of countries, by leading publishers, and has been funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institutes of Health. scite offers publishers a badge to display to help demonstrate the impact and reliability of articles they publish as well as a dashboard that allows them to utilize scite analytics for marketing, editorial, and sales.
“scite has found a unique way to make citations more informative and promote reliable research,” said Will Schweitzer, SVP, Product Management, Silverchair. “We’re excited to have such an innovative partner in the Silverchair Universe and to bring this valuable service to our growing community of publishers.”
“We’re happy to join the Silverchair Universe to work more closely with scholarly publishers,” said Josh Nicholson, co-found and CEO of scite. “We’ve had a great initial response from publishers on the Silverchair network already and are excited to better help other publishers demonstrate how reliable and impactful their publications are.”
