1,2‐Bis‐N‐[2′‐(diphenylphosphanyl)benzoyl]diaminobenzene, a New Chelating Ligand with Versatile Coordination Properties

Abstract: Keywords: Palladium / Platinum / N,P ligands / Ligand design 1,2-Bis-N-[2Ј-(diphenylphosphanyl)benzoyl]diaminobenzene (dppbH; 1) was prepared by peptidic coupling and shown to exist, in the solid state, in the form of hydrogenbonded dimers by single-crystal X-ray structure analysis. As expected, 1 reacts with [MCl 2 (cod)] (M = Pd, Pt; cod = cyclooctadiene) to form square-planar complexes. However, in the case of palladium [PdCl 2 (dppbH)] (2) is obtained, while in the case of platinum [Pt(dppb)] (3) is formed… Show more

“…Exploiting the methodology developed by Trost et al [95,96], Süss-Fink applied his modular approach to generate a family of trans-diphosphine ligands 9-11 by using different spacers and combining amide and ester linkages [97][98][99]. Ligands 9-11 are (as Trost's ligands) 2-diphenylphosphino benzoic acid derivatives formed by condensation with different diamines (9), diols (10) and aminoalcohols (11).…”

“…Many square-planar trans-complexes as IrL(CO)Cl, RhL(CO)Cl, PtLCl 2 , PtLI 2 or PdLCl 2 have been characterized by means of spectroscopic techniques and several X-ray structures confirmed the ligand arrangement (see Table 6) [97][98][99]101,102].…”

“…± The 2-(diphenylphosphino)benzoic acid, easily available by Wurtz coupling from sodium 2-chlorobenzoate and sodium diphenylphosphide [19], is an attractive building block for the synthesis of P,P-linked bis [phosphine] ligands by condensation of the acid function with diols, diamines, or amino alcohols [20]. Peptidic coupling between benzene 1,2-diamine, naphthalene-1,8-diamine, or racemic transcyclohexane-1,2-diamine and 2-(diphenylphosphino)benzoic acid afforded the diphos ligands pbpb [16], nbpb [17], and cbpb [18] in good yields (see Fig. 1).…”

“…These diphos ligands are expected to form trans-coordinated square-planar complexes comprising a 13-or 14-membered metallacycle due to their rigid C-framework. Accordingly, the Pd II complex trans-[Pd(pbpb)Cl 2 ] has been synthesized and structurally characterized [16].…”

“…Diphosphine ligands have been used in particular for the synthesis of catalysts for allylic alkylation [2] and for methanol carbonylation [3]. Tetradentate C 2 -symmetric ligands, possessing two phosphine groups and two other heteroatoms which increase the electron density at the metal centre, have been intensively studied [3][4][5][6][7]. Ligands of this type have been prepared to optimise the catalytic potential of their transition metal complexes [3].…”
