Nonlinear Optical and Optical Limiting Properties of MAPbBr₃/Polymethyl Methacrylate Organic Glasses

The MAPbBr 3 perovskite was synthesized, and X-ray diffraction proves that the MAPbBr 3 perovskite is a single crystal. MAPbBr 3 /polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) organic glasses were fabricated. The MAPbBr 3 single crystal shows strong UV−visible absorption and weak transmittance. Compared with the MAPbBr 3 single crystal, MAPbBr 3 / PMMA organic glasses show suitable UV−visible absorption and transmittance and enhanced UV−visible absorption stability. The nonlinear optical measurement of MAPbBr 3 /PMMA was performed. An obviously reverse saturable absorption is observed. The nonlinear absorption coefficient is as high as 3.8 m/GW. This large nonlinear absorption coefficient is competitive compared with that of perovskite materials. Besides, the nonlinear absorption stability of MAPbBr 3 /PMMA is also studied. Both the UV−visible absorption and nonlinear absorption over time prove the excellent stability of MAPbBr 3 /PMMA. The superior nonlinear refraction property of MAPbBr 3 /PMMA is also performed. The excellent reverse saturable absorption property and the nonlinear refraction property of MAPbBr 3 /PMMA result in superior optical limiting characteristics. This work implied that MAPbBr 3 /PMMA may be applied for future optical limiting devices.

Waterproof and breathable (W&B) membranes can resist liquid water penetration while transmitting water vapor simultaneously, which is critical for improving the comfort and protection offered by the resulting textiles; however, it remains a substantial challenge to construct promising nontoxic W&B membranes based on green solvents. Here, a simple and scalable strategy is developed for fabricating green, W&B, polyurethane nanofibrous membranes based on an ethanol solvent via emulsion electrospinning and post thermal treatment. A novel ethanol‐soluble and spinnable polyurethane is synthesized by a stepwise polymerization reaction. Notably, green nanofibrous membranes with high hydrophobicity are obtained based on fluorinated polyurethane/ethanol emulsions, utilizing the synthesized polyurethane as the template polymer. Furthermore, the introduction of the aziridine crosslinker (tris (2‐methyl‐1‐aziridine propionate) (TTMA)) constructs the structure by post thermal treatment between TTMA and ethanol‐soluble polyurethane, resulting in the exceptional ethanol resistance of the nanofibrous membranes. The resulting membranes present integrated functionalities of a robust hydrostatic pressure of 86.2 kPa, high water vapor permeability of 13.1 kg m−2 d−1, good air permeability of 5.5 mm s−1, low mass‐loss rate of 8.6 wt% after 60 min ethanol immersion, and desirable elasticity with a strain recovery ratio of 79.2%, offering strong potential for the next generation green and nontoxic protective textiles.

Because of their unique and excellent photophysical properties, lead halide perovskites are widely used in photoelectronic devices such as photodetectors, light-emitting diodes, solar cells, and lasers. Recently it was found that lead halide perovskites also exhibit excellent nonlinear optical properties in nonlinear optics (NLO), including saturated absorption, two-or multiphoton absorption, and nonlinear refraction. It is believed that perovskites will be serious nonlinear optical materials in the future. The nonlinear optical devices prepared from perovskites on the basis of their optical nonlinearity may open up a new viewpoint for the application of information and communication technology. Here the research on lead halide perovskites in NLO is reviewed. The mechanism of nonlinear optical phenomena of lead halide perovskites is analyzed, and some possible methods to improve the optical nonlinearity are summarized. Their applications in passive Q-switched lasers, upconversion lasers, optical limiting, and infrared detection are introduced. Several future research directions and challenges of lead halide perovskites in nonlinear optics are proposed.
