Abstract:Solvent effect on the ratio of the endo and exo isomers formed by the Diels3Alder reaction of cyclopentadiene with acrylic acid esters can be described by multiparameter equations involving solvent polarity and electrophilic solvating power as determining parameters. The solvent polarity parameter W based on the stereoisomer ratio in the reaction with methyl acrylate cannot be regarded as a universal measure of solvating power, which was demonstrated using a number of examples.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
