16α-Hydroxysteroids. XIII.* Carbonyl Reduction by Streptomyces roseochromogenus

Abstract: Streptomyces roseochromogenus fermentations of 9 -fluorohy drocortisone result in a small amount of C2o-carbonyl reduction, the 20/3-dihydro derivatives of both 9«-fluorohydrocortisone and 16 -hy droxy-9 -fl uorohy drocortisone being formed. Fermentations of 9 a-fluorohydrocortisone-21-aldehyde result in rapid and complete reduction of the aldehyde to 9a-fluorohydrocortisone, which is then altered characteristically by the microorganism.
