“…In some previous studies, lymph node and visceral involvement such as the bone and lungs were detected by 18 F-FDG PET/CT imaging (10,11,13,14). Diffuse and focal FDG uptake in the skin have also been reported (14,15). In our patient, an increased FDG uptake was detected in nodular skin lesions on the lower extremities, and the highest SUV max value of these lesions was 6.1.…”

“…18 F-FDG PET/CT achieves high sensitivity and specificity for many malignancies and is useful for detecting malignancies including KS. The present literatures suggest that it is an accurate noninvasive staging tool by identifying more sites of disease especially clinically occult lesions, than conventional diagnostic methods [2,5]. In our case, 18 F-FDG PET/CT detected multiple lymph nodes involvement that cannot be detected by conventional diagnostic methods and also, it provided very interesting images.…”

“…Kaposi sarcoma (KS) is a rarely seen multifocal vascular tumor associated with human herpes virus 8 that arise in HIV-infected patients and has a low malignant potential. It is a multifocal disease typically appearing at mucocutaneous sites, but lymph node and visceral organ involvement may occasionally be seen, and thus require imaging studies for precise staging [1,2]. We here present a case of systemic KS with 18 F-FDG PET/CT for staging.…”

“…In the literature, several FDG-PET studies have reported KS patients with FDG-avid lesions, even though most of these are case reports. These studies have mostly concerned AIDS-related KS [ 58 , 59 , 60 , 61 , 62 , 63 ], but some have also concerned classic KS [ 64 , 65 ], transplant-related KS [ 66 ] and endemic KS [ 67 ].…”

“…FDG-avid KS lesions have been reported in the skin [ 58 , 59 , 62 , 64 , 67 , 68 , 69 ], lymph nodes [ 59 , 62 , 63 , 64 , 65 , 66 , 67 ], bone [ 61 , 64 , 67 ], lungs [ 59 , 61 , 62 ], gastro-intestinal tract [ 60 ], mouth [ 66 ], thyroid [ 66 ], and salivary glands [ 64 ], which demonstrates the ability of FDG-PET to detect KS lesions in various organs. Interestingly, for some of these authors, FDG-PET was instrumental in detecting unsuspected KS lesions [ 61 , 62 , 66 ].…”
