193. Complexes of organoaluminium compounds. Part I. Ammonia complexes of ethylaluminium chlorides

Abstract: Ethylaluminium dichloride forms complexes with one, two, five, and eight moles of ammonia per mole of aluminium and diethylaluminium chloride complexes with one and two moles of ammonia. There is no ammonolysis of aluminium-chlorine bonds. On heating, the complexes lose ethane and aluminium trichloride-ammonia, with the formation of aluminium-nitrogen polymers.ALUMINIUM TRrALIwLs give ammonia adducts which decompose h2 at room temperature forming hydrocarbons and compounds (R,AlNH,). ( x = 2 or 3), but the tri… Show more

“…A2 Synthesis. Diethylaluminum amide (Et 2 AlNH 2 ) 3 was prepared as described previously. , A 120-mL portion of Et 3 Al in toluene (230 mmol) was transferred by cannula to a 250-mL flask equipped with a septum inlet, thermometer, magnetic stir bar, and water condenser. The flask was heated to 70 °C prior to ammonia addition to avoid buildup of the adduct Et 3 Al:NH 3 , which may decompose violently.…”

“…Such condensation reactions are well documented for Al-R/N-H systems. [23][24][25][26][27][28][29][30][31] Characteristically, such systems eliminate alkane while reaction products are Al-N cages possessing A12N2 fragments. To the best of our knowledge, the title compound represents the first report of a condensation product resulting from cleavage of Al-R and C-H fragments.…”
