[2,7-Dimethoxy-8-(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)naphthalen-1-yl](2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)methanone

Abstract: In the title compound, C32H32O4, the dihedral angle between the two benzene rings of the 2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl groups is 71.43 (7)°. The dihedral angles between the two benzene rings and the naphthalene ring system are 81.58 (5) and 84.92 (6)°. An intramolecular C—H⋯O interaction is observed.

“…Each of dihedral angles is similar to that of the corresponding symmetric 1,8-diaroylnaphthalene. The dihedral angles between the best planes of the 2,4,6-trimethylphenyl rings and the naphthalene ring of 1,8-bis(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)-2,7-dimethoxynaphthalene are 81.58 (5) and84.92 (6)° (Muto et al, 2012). In addition, the dihedral angles between the best planes of the 4-chlorophenyl rings and the naphthalene ring of 1,8-bis(4-chlorobenzoyl)-2,7-dimethoxynaphthalene are 71.55 (7) and 71.98 (7)° (Nakaema et al, 2007).…”

“…E68, o906 In the course of our study on electrophilic aromatic aroylation of 2,7-dimethoxynaphthalene, peri-aroylnaphthalene compounds have proven to be formed regioselectively with the aid of suitable acidic mediators (Okamoto & Yonezawa, 2009;Okamoto, Mitsui et al, 2011). Recently, we have reported the crystal structures of several 1,8-diaroylated naphthalene analogues exemplified by 1,8-bis(4-chlorobenzoyl)-2,7-dimethoxynaphthalene (Nakaema et al, 2007) and 1,8-bis(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)-2,7-dimethoxynaphthalene (Muto et al, 2012). The aroyl groups at the 1,8-positions of the naphthalene rings in these compounds are connected to the naphthalene rings in an almost perpendicular fashion.…”

“…chlorobenzoyl)-2-hydroxy-7-methoxynaphthalene . The 2,4,6-trisubstituents in the benzene ring tend to bring about intramolecular short contacts involving the carbonyl oxygen atom: intramolecular C-HÁ Á ÁO C hydrogen bonds are observed in 2,7-dimethoxy-1,8-bis(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)naphthalene (Muto et al, 2012a) and 1-(4-chlorobenzoyl)-2,7-dimethoxy-8-(2,4,6-trimethylbenzoyl)naphthalene (Muto et al, 2012b).…”
