Introduction: Extraction of teeth is the most performed procedure by dentist in the dental clinic. All dentists need to be aware of these complications that can happen during extraction of teeth. Having basic knowledge about post extraction complication can prevent the future untoward effects on the patients. Objective:The aim of our study is to find out the information and knowledge that undergraduate dental students (final year and intern) possess regarding the complication during tooth extraction along with spreading awareness about management of complications. Materials and Methods:The present cross sectional study was done among the final year students and interns of Gujarat conducted by private dental hospital, Gujarat. 400 students were selected randomly for this study. The study was done with the help of pretested and pre validated, self-designed questionnaire that include 15 close ended question of post extraction complications and its management. It was made by Google form and link was sent by e-mail to final year students and interns of Gujarat.Results: This survey included 400 under graduate dental students(final year and intern). Among these 327 dental students participated in this survey.87.5% dental students reported that they have enough information about post-operative complication.40.1% dental students didn't ace any complication and 25.4% reported pain to be the most common post-operative complication, followed by prolonged bleeding (19.3%), swelling (8.6%), dry socket (6.7%). 97.9% dental students agreed for the usefulness of thorough medical history for treating complication. 87.2% dental students answered that packing the socket with a gauze under pressure will arrest bleeding after tooth extraction. 65.1% dental students preferred to give an antibiotic prophylaxis in case with infective endocarditis. Majority of students were aware about management of dry socket, hematoma and trismus.

Background: Teeth are among the most important parts of our body which help in mastication, phonetic and esthetic. Now a days tooth extraction can be avoided due to availabilities of most advanced treatment. Mostly, extraction is the treatment of choice for extensive caries and severe periodontitis because of late reporting to dentist due to lack of knowledge. Knowledge about post extraction complications and their management can prevent the occurrence of untoward sequalae following extraction. Previous studies have shown that preoperative patient education can help in decreasing postoperative anxiety, pain and complications. Methodology: This is a questionnaire based cross-sectional descriptive study. The study was conducted during the period of January to March 2018. Total of 250 patients (138 males and 112 females) were included in the study by the convenient method of sampling that visited the dental clinics of college of Dentistry, Taibah University. Validated questionnaire was asked about post extraction preventive knowledge. Categories of answer was good, average and poor according to number of correct answers. The statistical analysis was performed by the Statistical Package for Social Science version 21 (SPSS Inc Chicago, IL, USA). The significant value was obtained by using Chi Square test and p < 0.05 was set to be significant. Results: Females and 31-45 years age group had better post extraction preventive knowledge and there was significant relation. Nationality and education level had no significant relation with level of post extraction preventive knowledge. The patients who had better knowledge followed the instructions precisely. Conclusion: It was concluded that female, patients above middle age group and more qualified patients had more post extraction preventive knowledge and they also followed the instructions very strictly. The importance of study came out that dentist or dental assistant should explain and convince them to follow proper post-operative instruction to avoid complications.

Background: Postextraction complications are multifactorial. Taking proper medical and dental history, thorough planning, and a skillful dentist can help the prediction and reduction of these complications. Objective: This study aims to assess and compare the knowledge of senior students and interns regarding postextraction complications in government and private colleges in Riyadh Province. Materials and Methods: A random sampling technique was used to select a minimum of 250 participants for this study. A self-designed, close-ended questionnaire was disseminated through an online platform in a manner. Sixth-year (senior) dental students and interns were included in the study. Data were coded and entered into spreadsheet software and analyzed using Chi-square tests. Results: More than half were dental interns (54.04%), and the rest were senior students (45.96%). Male participants comprised 52.57% of the total participants, whereas females were 47.43%. Most participants were from government colleges (53.31%), whereas 46.69% belonged to private colleges. Male interns from government colleges demonstrated the best knowledge among all the participants. In private colleges, females demonstrated better knowledge than males in both the senior and intern groups, and the difference was statistically significant. The difference in knowledge between participants from government and private colleges was found to be statistically significant ( P = 0.001). Government colleges were found to demonstrate more complications than private colleges, and the difference was statistically significant ( P = 0.003). Conclusion: Male interns from government colleges had the best knowledge about the postextraction complications among the candidates.
