2 mm conventional miniplates with three-dimensional strut plate in mandibular fractures

Abstract: Aim: The aim of this study was to compare 2 mm conventional miniplates with three-dimensional (3D) strut plates in the treatment of mandibular fractures treated in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of a college in India, during 2012–2015. Materials and Methods: All 20 patients with mandible fracture requiring open reduction and internal fixation of the fracture were reported and reviewed in the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery of the same dent… Show more

“…There was a statistically significant difference among the groups, which was similar to studies conducted by Mittal et al , Tiwari et al , Kaushik et al , and Mohammad et al . [ 15 17 18 19 ] Post-op intermaxillary fixation was required in all patients for one week and two patients each in the 3D plate group and the miniplate group for one month. This was in contrast to study by Balakrishnan et al ., Malhotra et al , and Agnihotri et al .…”

“…[ 29 ] Kaushik S et al . [ 30 ] (2020) compared 3D plates with conventional miniplates in the treatment of mandibular fractures. 3D plates showed no statistically significant advantage over single miniplate; however, study parameters were better in 3D plate group in both studies with advantages such as less operating time, ease of application, and cost-effective over the conventional plate system.…”
