20 Years of SINBAD (Shielding Integral Benchmark Archive and Database)

Abstract: The SINBAD project started in the early 1990's as a collaboration between the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development's Nuclear Energy Agency Data Bank (OECD/NEADB) and the Radiation Safety Information Computational Center (RSICC) at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) with the goal to preserve the information on the performed radiation shielding benchmarks and make them available in a standardised form to the international community. The SINBAD database comprises now 100 shielding benchmark… Show more

“…The Shielding INtegral Benchmark Archive and Database (SINBAD) [1][2][3] project was started in the early 1990's at the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency Data Bank (NEA DB) and the Radiation Safety Information Computational Center (RSICC) as a collection of quality experiments for validating and benchmarking computer codes and data for radiation transport and shielding applications. Currently, the SINBAD database comprises over 100 benchmark compilations and evaluations of relevance to: -reactor shielding, pressure vessel dosimetry (48) -fusion blanket neutronics (31) -accelerator shielding (23) In order to facilitate their use, the data are organized in the standardized format structure.…”

“…Further investigation into the origin of the differences is needed to conclusively determine the reason for differences in the shapes of the neutron spectra. A comparison of the results of these simulations with measurements is also needed so these codes will be tested on some of the benchmark experiments from the SINBAD database [9] and other experiments.…”

“…Among the shielding benchmark experiments available in SINBAD [7] the two sets of photon leakage spectra benchmarks measured at RFNC-VNIITF (Zababakhin Russian Federal Nuclear Center -All-Russian Scientific Researching Institute of Technical Physics), Snezhinsk [4] were considered to be suitable for the photon validation exercise:…”

“…Photon flux calculated using the 04p, 84p and 12p data libraries with MCNP-6 was also evaluated for the experimental Photon Leakage Spectra benchmarks [4][5][6] available in SINBAD [7]. The measurements performed at RFNC-VNIITF, Snezhinsk, using a 14 MeV D-T neutron source placed in the centre of spherical samples of different materials were selected for the comparison exercise.…”
