Abstract: Vascular calcification is the formation of bone and cartilage within blood vessels. It involves the osteogenic differentiation of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), VSMC apoptosis, calcifying matrix vesicle release and extracellular matrix mineralisation.
