22.2: Invited Paper: System-on-Glass LTPS LCD using P-type TFTs

Abstract: We have developed a p‐type 2.2” QVGA LCD panel with integrated level shifters, shift registers, positive and negative‐voltage DC‐DC converters, and a de‐multiplexer for mobile applications. Novel low‐power p‐type shift registers and level shifters have been also integrated on the glass to reduce the power consumption. Moreover, positive and negative‐voltage p‐type DC‐DC converters are also built on the glass to supply the power for the panel. In consequence, the operation voltage of the driving IC outside the … Show more

“…Unlike n-type a-Si TFTs, LTPS TFT backplanes have mainly used p-type TFTs for manufacturing AM displays [76][77][78][79][80][81]. Because p-type TFTs work in opposite ways to n-type TFTs, we have to change the point of view for the operation of shift registers.…”

“…When the gate drivers are implemented in external complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) integrated circuits, simple shift registers are employed by cascading D flip-flops [40][41][42][43]. Lately, gate driver circuits have been integrated in a display panel to curtail the manufacturing cost [44][45][46][47][48]. Unlike CMOS circuits with two available types of N-type and P-type MOS transistors, the integration at the TFT backplane should cope with the Disclaimer/Publisher's Note: The statements, opinions, and data contained in all publications are solely those of the individual author(s) and contributor(s) and not of MDPI and/or the editor(s).…”

“…As the first approximation, optics of the LC cell can be described in terms of the Jones matrix formalism [17]. In this case, the Jones vector of the state of polarization of a transmissive LC cell can be approximated with the following expression [20]:…”

“…We have successfully developed the first time mass-producible oxide TFT process for large size display in AUO since the undertaking development in 2011. The first prototype oxide TFT process was for 4k resolution display in Gen.6 FAB in 2013 [1]. Then, now it is integrated to Gen.7 for the ultra-high resolution display, 8k4k LCD TV for the future emerging display technology as shown in Fig.1.…”
