We compute the dominant two-loop corrections to the Higgs trilinear coupling λ hhh and to the Higgs quartic coupling λ hhhh in models with extended Higgs sectors, using the effective-potential approximation.We provide in this paper all necessary details about our calculations, and present general MS expressions for derivatives of the integrals appearing in the effective potential at two loops. We also consider three particular Beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) scenarios -namely a typical scenario of an Inert Doublet Model (IDM), and scenarios of a Two-Higgs-Doublet Model (2HDM) and of a Higgs Singlet Model (HSM) without scalar mixing -and we include all the necessary finite counterterms to obtain (in addition to MS results) on-shell scheme expressions for the corrections to the Higgs self-couplings. With these analytic results, we investigate the possible magnitude of two-loop BSM contributions to the Higgs self-couplings and the fate of the non-decoupling effects that are known to appear at one loop. We find that, at least as long as pertubative unitarity conditions are fulfilled, the size of two-loop corrections remains well below that of one-loop corrections. Typically, two-loop contributions to λ hhh amount to approximately 20% of those at one loop, implying that the non-decoupling effects observed at one loop are not significantly modified, but also meaning that higher-order corrections need to be taken into account for the future perspective of precise measurements of the Higgs trilinear coupling.

The Higgs trilinear coupling λ hhh is of great importance to understand the structure of the Higgs sector and allows searching for indirect signs of Beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) physics, even if new states are somehow hidden. In particular, in models with extended Higgs sectors, it is known that non-decouplings effects in BSM-scalar contributions at one loop can cause λ hhh to deviate significantly from its SM prediction, raising the question of what happens at two loops. We review here our calculation [1, 2] of the leading two-loop corrections to λ hhh in an aligned scenario of a Two-Higgs-Doublet Model. We find their typical size to be 10-20% of the one-loop corrections, meaning that they do not modify significantly the one-loop non-decoupling effects, but are not entirely negligible either. I. INTRODUCTIONThe discovery of the 125-GeV Higgs boson at the CERN LHC in 2012 has been a great success for particle physics, and has completed the particle spectrum of the Standard Model (SM). However, while it is now established that the Higgs sector is responsible for the electroweak symmetry breaking (EWSB), very little is known about the nature of the Higgs potential -in fact, only its minimum and the curvature around the minimum are known. Moreover, although some new physics must exist -possibly not too far from the electroweak (EW) scale -to address shortcomings of the SM, there is so far no clear sign of it in experiments. A first possible explanation for this could be that new physics only exists beyond the scale currently accessible at colliders, and hence their effects would be (almost) impossible to find. Another interesting possibility would be that the new states are made somehow difficult to observe via some symmetry or mechanism.A prime example of the latter is alignment [3], which is defined for models of several Higgs doublets as the limit in which the total EW vacuum expectation value (VEV) is colinear in field a Speaker.

The proper renormalization of mixing angles in quantum field theories is a long-standing problem. It is relevant for the renormalization of the quark mixing matrix in the Standard Model and for various mixing scenarios in theories beyond. In this contribution we specifically consider theories with extended scalar sectors. We describe renormalization schemes for mixing angles based on combinations of observables or symmetry requirements such as rigid or background-field gauge invariance and compare their properties to previous approaches such as MS schemes. We formulate specific renormalization conditions for the mixing angles in the Two-Higgs-Doublet Model and the Higgs-Singlet Extension of the Standard Model and calculate electroweak corrections to Higgs-boson decays via W-or Z-boson pairs within these models for a selection of (new and old) renormalization schemes.
