Seismic coherency is a measure of lateral changes in the seismic response caused by variation in structure, stratigraphy, lithology, porosity, and the presence of hydrocarbons. Unlike shaded relief maps that allow 3-D visualization of faults and channels from horizon picks, seismic coherency operates on the seismic data itself and is therefore unencumbered by interpreter or automatic picker biases. We present a more robust, multitrace, semblancebased coherency algorithm that allows us to analyze data of lesser quality than our original three-trace crosscorrelation-based algorithm. This second-generation, semblance-based coherency algorithm provides improved vertical resolution over our original zero mean crosscorrelation algorithm, resulting in reduced mixing of overlying or underlying stratigraphic features. In general, we analyze stratigraphic features using as narrow a temporal analysis window as possible, typically determined by the highest usable frequency in the input seismic data. In the limit, one may confidently apply our new semblance-based algorithm to a one-sample-thick seismic volume extracted along a conventionally picked stratigraphic horizon corresponding to a peak or trough whose amplitudes lie sufficiently above the ambient seismic noise. In contrast, near-vertical structural features, such as faults, are better enhanced when using a longer temporal analysis window corresponding to the lowest usable frequency in the input data. The calculation of reflector dip/azimuth throughout the data volume allows us to generalize the calculation of conventional complex trace attributes (including envelope, phase, frequency, and bandwidth) to the calculation of complex reflector attributes generated by slant stacking the input data along the reflector dip within the coherency analysis window. These more robust complex reflector attribute cubes can be combined with coherency and dip/azimuth cubes using conventional geostatistical, clustering, and segmentation algorithms to provide an integrated, multiattribute analysis.

Ant tracking technique is a widely used seismic interpretation method of identifying faults in the field of oil and gas exploration and development. However, due to its poor noise immunity, the fault identification effect of ant tracking could be easily affected by the quality of seismic data. Usually, two types of methods can be used to improve the effect of ant tracking, to improve the algorithm of ant tracking or to remove the noise of the seismic data. The first method is usually carried out by the research personnel, and it will take quite a long time before it can be integrated into the software, therefore, the de-noising method is more realistic for the interpreters. This paper puts forward a method of improving the effect of ant tracking by using AC component filtering of reflected intensity. In this method, the structural orientation filtering of the original seismic data is carried out first, and then a coherence cube is calculated based on multiple seismic trace dip scanning. Next, a filtering will be carried out on the coherence cube by using the AC component of the reflected intensity, and then the positive value after the filtering will be set to zero. Finally, the ant tracking will be processed based on the data volume. The improved ant tracking has a better fault identification effect with a higher fault identification rate, which is more favorable for the detailed interpretation of faults.

Attributes remain to be of the utmost importance for the characterization of seismic data. Especially in the scale-range where tuning effects play, the understanding of what is happening, and the subsequent technology to extract the proper attributes from the huge seismic data-volumes remains current. This study starts with the analysis of a set of typical petrophysical log shapes. These log shapes have a thickness of 5 to 50 meter, commonly below the seismic resolution, in the region of tuning effects. The synthetic seismic reponses for these logs indicated that the local shape of the wavelet could be indicative. From the vast range of wavelet-transform based tools, the matching pursuit analysis approach using a specific type of Gabor-atoms was selected. This was done because of the attractive Rickerwavelet shape of these atoms, a shape commonly found in seismic data. This method proved to be able to extract the phase attribute (along with other attributes) from real seismic data. Distinct populations in the phase attributes were found that could be related to facies-types in a delta-system. This method is compared with the well-established concept of the analytic trace. The proposed method is extracting information on a larger scale compared to the principal components from the analytic trace, making it less sensitive to noise. This has a draw-back in a lower resolution in the time direction, but due to the choice of a very seismic (Ricker) wavelet, this is not so troublesome.
