A multibeam antenna fed by cluster horns can reduce sidelobe level, and a design method for determining antenna parameters is described as well as its electrical properties. The horn size and the antenna aperture diameter are determined, and a relation between the horn excitation amplitude distribution and the sidelobe level is discussed. Degradation of sidelobe level is given as a result of errors in horn size, frequency, and excitation amplitude. The received mode analysis method is optimized when horns are displaced from the focal point of the antenna, and the excitation distribution is determined. Finally, results are described of the present method, which is applied to the domestic satellite‐borne multibeam antenna.
