Abstract: INTRODUCTION: Homeostasis of the GI mucosal environment depends on gut motility and normal gastric acid secretion. The autonomic nervous system plays an important role in these processes. Diabetes has been shown to injure the enteric nervous system, resulting in slowed motility.
