A dielectric resonator (DR) can be used to form the stabilizing element in an oscillator. Dielectric resonator oscillators (DROs) are characterized by the following properties: high‐frequency stability, high efficiency, and low manufacturing cost. They also can be made to provide good temperature stability.
Two‐ and three‐terminal active devices exhibit phase noise characteristics at microwave frequencies. Oscillators constructed using these devices can have their phase noise behavior improved by the addition of a DR element.
