Abstract:Abstract. This is a survey of methods developed in the last few years to prove results on growth in non-commutative groups. These techniques have their roots in both additive combinatorics and group theory, as well as other fields. We discuss linear algebraic groups, with SL 2 (Z/pZ) as the basic example, as well as permutation groups. The emphasis will lie on the ideas behind the methods.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
