3D Internal Visualization of Concrete Structure Using Multifaceted Data for Ultrasonic Array Pulse-Echo Tomography

Abstract: This research proposes a 3D internal visualization using ultrasonic pulse-echo tomography technique to evaluate accurately the state of concrete structures for their efficient maintenance within a limited budget. Synthetic aperture focusing technique (SAFT) is used as a post-processing algorithm to manipulate the data measured by the ultrasonic pulse-echo technique. Multifaceted measurements improve the weakness of the existing ultrasonic pulse-echo tomography technique that cannot identify the area beyond a r… Show more

“…The standard SAFT's results can be further improved by introducing a few developments, such as calibrating the sagging in the resulting images due to the long wavelength of the pulse [33,34], the extended SAFT methods and applications [35][36][37][38][39][40][41][42], the AI-based algorithms applications [43,44], and ultrasonic image by using both linear and non-linear wave properties [45].…”

“…MIRA incorporates 12 channels each comprised of 4 transducers in a multi-static array. After transit time data are acquired at a test location, a signal processing technique called Synthetic Aperture Focusing Technique (SAFT, owned by Kiwa Inspecta, Finland) is used to reconstruct a 2-D image of the interior of the concrete member at the test location [11].…”
