3D MIMO scheme for broadcasting future digital TV in single-frequency networks

Abstract: This letter introduces a 3D space-time-space block code for future terrestrial digital TV systems. The code is based on a double layer structure designed for inter-cell and intra-cell transmissions in single frequency networks. Without increasing the complexity of the receiver, the proposed code is very efficient to cope with equal and unequal received powers in single frequency network scenarios.Nowadays, one of the most promising technologies for the second generation of future terrestrial digital TV, concer… Show more

“…The orthogonal spacetime block coding (STBC) such as Alamouti scheme [3] can easily extract the spatial diversity by linear processing. Since last decades, various STBCs [2,10,11,[13][14][15][16] have been proposed for different application scenarios achieving different trade-offs among efficiency (coding rate), reliability (diversity) and orthogonality (decoding complexity). As far as the distributed MIMO broadcasting scenario is concerned, one significant characteristic of the propagation scenario is the unequal power levels of the received signals.…”

“…The Srinath-Rajan code possesses high coding gain but needs low decoding complexity due to its orthogonal structure. Similarly, some other STBCs such as DjABBA code [9], Golden code [10] and 3D MIMO code [11] were shown to be also fast-decodable because of the underlying orthogonality in the codewords.…”

“…A so-called 3D MIMO code has been proposed for the distributed MIMO scenarios [5]. Alamouti scheme [2] is selected as the inter-cell ST coding because it is the most robust code against power imbalances.…”
