Abstract:The number of Proton Pump Inhibitor (PPI) users has grown since the last decade. This greater use has come together with its inappropriate prescription, which is a result of its effectiveness and good tolerance. However, there is overuse and inappropriate use with excessive dose and duration. The literature reveals that long-term PPI use has side effects such as pneumonia, gastrointestinal cancer, dementia.
