“…Chalcogenides are compounds containing one or more chalcogen elements and have an important role to play in biology and, in particular,i nh uman health and the human body.S elenium, in the form of selenocysteine and the sec unit in the proteins (peptides), plays an important enzymatic antioxidant role in the body.R ecent advances have revealed thath eterocyclic selenium-containing compounds are important for biological activities, such as antibacterial,a nti-inflammatory,a ntitumor,a nd for ROS/RNS sensing. [29][30][31][32][33][34][35][36][37] In this part, we are reviewing recent progress to synthesize chalcogen-based chemosensors and their photophysical underpinnings. This work focuses on small chromophoric or fluorophoricm olecules, which are incorporated with organochalcogen atoms (e.g.,R -S-R, R-Se-R, R-Te-R).…”

“…Selenium, in the form of selenocysteine and the sec unit in the proteins (peptides), plays an important enzymatic antioxidant role in the body. Recent advances have revealed that heterocyclic selenium‐containing compounds are important for biological activities, such as antibacterial, anti‐inflammatory, antitumor, and for ROS/RNS sensing . In this part, we are reviewing recent progress to synthesize chalcogen‐based chemosensors and their photophysical underpinnings.…”

“…Since the first development of 1,2,3‐selenadiazoles by I. Lalazari et al in 1969 , they have been widely used as intermediates for developing organoselenium compounds and used as a route for the synthesis of compounds with anti‐tumor , anti‐HIV , and antimicrobial activity . We have previously reported the synthesis of ethynylselenoketones and selenium analogs of glycerol by the nucleophilic attack of 2‐arylethynylselenolates on α‐bromoketones and epichlorohydrin, respectively.…”

“…The basic drawback of furocoumarins is their high phototoxicity. On the other hand, the synthesis and investigation of a series of organic and inorganic selenium compounds in many cases revealed a wide spectrum of biological activity, in particular selenium-containing derivatives showed the possibility of their use in the treatment of malignant tumors [4][5][6].…”

On the other hand, the synthesis and investigation of a series of organic and inorganic selenium compounds in many cases revealed a wide spectrum of biological activity, in particular selenium-containing derivatives showed the possibility of their use in the treatment of malignant tumors [4][5][6].With the objective of producing new potentially biologically active heterocyclic systems we have developed a preparative method for the synthesis of the methyl ester of 3-bromo-2-(2-hydroxy-2-propyl)-7-oxo-7H-selenolo[2,3-f]chromene-8-carboxylic acid -a new example of a class of selenophene-containing polycyclic heterocycles. The methyl ester of 6-(3-hydroxy-3-methylbutyn-1-yl)coumarin-3-carboxylic acid (2) was obtained in satisfactory yield as a result of the interaction of the starting coumarin 1 with 3-hydroxy-3-methylbutyne in the presence of bis(triphenylphosphino)palladium dichloride and copper(I) iodide.…”
