“…ASCP, an extremely rare, histological variant of pancreatic carcinoma accounts for less than 1% of pancreatic neoplasms based on our study and previous case series . The relative paucity of ASCP cases compared to PDAC has limited characterization of ASCP to either single institution case series or administrative datasets.…”

“…The relative paucity of ASCP cases compared to PDAC has limited characterization of ASCP to either single institution case series or administrative datasets. The studies by Katz et al and Boyd et al represent the two largest previously reported studies characterizing ASCP with 95 and 415 patients (31 and 90 resected patients), respectively. Similar to our study, both of these studies demonstrated ASCP tumors were larger in size with a predilection for a body/tail pancreas location compared to PDAC tumors.…”

“…9 Adenosquamous carcinoma of the pancreas has anecdotally been considered aggressive and has shown poor prognosis compared with pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). However, as 2 recent population-based analyses reported, 10,11 whether ASC is actually more aggressive than PDAC remains unclear. Furthermore, many clinical trials have treated both PDAC and ASC equally.…”

“…16,17 In FNA specimens of ASCAP, the squamous component may predominate; however, a careful examination of cytomorphologic features and the use of special stains often reveals a coexisting glandular component. 14,15 By definition, in ASCAP, at least 30% of the malignant tumor must display squamous differentiation histologically, with a coexisting ductal adenocarcinoma component.…”
