419. Kinetics of the reaction of alkyl and aryl compounds of the nickel group with pyridine

Abstract: Kinetic studies are reported of the reaction in ethanol solution between pyridine and several planar platinum(II), palladium(n), and nickel(I1) compounds of the general formula @fClR(PR',),]. The relative rates of attainment of equilibrium of trans-[hlCl(o-tolyl) (PEtJJ with pyridine are approximately 5,000,000 : 100,000 : 1 where M is Ni(zI), Pd(II), and Pt(I1) respectively. The effect on the rates of equilibration of different groups trans to the chloro-group undergoing replacement shows that the translabili… Show more

“…This hindrance has the effect of destabilising the expected trigonalbipyramidal transition state, an effect well-known in substitution reactions of square-planar Pt II complexes. [19] The pK a values of the monoaqua and diaqua adducts of both 1 and 2 are b 0.3 units lower than those similar cisplatin adducts. This, combined with slower hydrolysis (Table 3), is likely to result in a reduced intracellular activity of complex 1 compared to cisplatin and may contribute to its high activity against cisplatin-resistant cell lines.…”

“…First, the viscosity does not increase upon the addition of the same quantity of monomeric The faster dynamics in cross-linker 1 a provide a mechanism by which to evaluate the dynamic contributions of ligand exchange to the properties of the network. The thermodynamics and kinetics in 1-PVP are reported reliably by model system 2-3 ( Figure 2; not accounting for cooperativity, the effects of which we assume to be equivalent in all systems), [10,11] and NMR spectroscopy measurements on 2 a-3 and 2 b-3 reveal nearly identical association constants of 35 m À1 (2 a-3) and 29…”

“…alkyl, aryl) are among the strongest σ-donors and have a large kinetic trans effect; i.e., they increase the rate of substitution of a trans-positioned group. 5 Substitution reactions of Pt(II) complexes containing a single metalcarbon bond were first investigated more than 30 years ago, 7 and later studies with complexes containing two, [8][9][10] three, 11 and four 12,13 metal-carbon bonds have shown interesting kinetic and mechanistic features.…”
