Abstract:Background: The acute withdrawal of beta-blockers is known to precipitate sympathetic hyperresponsiveness. The use of these agents during acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) appears to be safe, however, there is ongoing concerns of their adverse respiratory effects.
